Heeeeeelp! NATCA's two National Officers have gone missing! During arguably the most important presidential transition in history, with our issues and futures hanging in the balance, with a new Congress (Burris and Franken take one step BACK,) and with a new DoT Sec and incoming administration to shmooze, NATCA's leadership is MIA. AWOL. Gone-ski. Hasta la bye-bye.
There are any number of reasons why Pat and Paul haven't given a MICRON of information to their members since December 15th and 21st respectively, and have spent a good part of December out of the office: Rapture. Aliens. Nothing to report (riggggght.) Lackanookie. Alcohol poisoning. Fruitcake poisoning. Aversion to work. Aversion to DC. A million things.
Please, please, please help us. If you have seen either of these two gentlemen in the last month or so, please call 1-800-GET-YOUR-HEADSET.
Thank you.
No Merry Christmas no happy new year, no kwanza no hannaka, nothing from these two losers. Maybe their special secret pals on the secret pager list got something. All we got was the back of their head, again. Shit, John, you are giving us better updates during your retirement than these two pretenders.
Hey...if you move the screen just right you can see three pictures...one ex-president and two pretenders.

GOODBYE MALEVOLENT SUSHI: THE EEL SLITHERS OUT!
This is a yet-unconfirmed report from one of many thousands of FAA employees. The source informs me of receipt of an e-mail sent to the source's FAA account from Failed FAA Acting Administrator Bobby Sturgell. The e-mail appears to have been sent to all or at least many FAA employees simultaneously. In this e-mail Bobby Sturgell has once again apparently named an Acting (here also, "Deputy") Administrator successor to himself in the form of a hack FAA lady named Lynne Osmus, just like TrailerBobby tried to do previously with Ruth Buzzi Leverenz before Ruth Buzzi Leverenz "retired" (read, quit in FEAR).
Here is the text of the Bobby Sturgell Quitter Email, as thusfar reported to Quiet Rockland. The best part? If this was really Bobby writing it, HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO SPELL HIS SUCCESSOR'S NAME CORRECTLY!!! TWICE!!! WHAT A FREAKING IDIOT BOBBY STURGELL IS!!!
"Dear Colleagues:
Yesterday, I announced that Lynne Osmus, Assistant Administrator for Security and Hazardous Materials, had agreed to act as Deputy Administrator. Today, I am pleased to share with you that upon my departure at the end of this Administration, Lynn[SIC!!!] will serve as Acting Administrator.
As we noted yesterday, Lynne served for a year as my Senior Advisor when I became Deputy Administrator. Most recently, she served as FAA Transition Executive for the Obama transition team, and from 1995 to 1998 she was Chief of Staff during the tenures of FAA Administrators David Hinson and Jane Garvey. Previously, in the early 1990’s, she also served as Special Assistant to then FAA Administrator James Busey.
Finally, from 1998 to 2000, she served as the director of the FAA's Europe, Africa and Middle East Office in Brussels, Belgium.
With Lynn’s[SIC!!!] qualifications and nearly 30 years of career federal service at the FAA, I am confident the agency will be in terrific hands through the transition period.
Bobby"

Oh, and I suppose I should apologize. I don't think that I quite correctly indicated the relevant URL or URL's, on my prior post. How they SHOULD have read, is:

And, hey, Lynne? What's YOUR favorite kind of seafood?

What are they supposed to say? Stay strong, our unity is their demise? Or whatever that stupid, feel-goody thing they came up with was? Perhaps they are busy coming up with a new slogan to keep Natca "united". Here's a tip from me, stop spdnding my dues money on buttons, lanyards, or wrist bands that do nothing to get us a new contract. Don't worry about anything else but getting a new contract. Give management everything, seniority, vacation bidding, etc. etc. until we get a ratified contract. Everyone who works in DC for Natca should be focused on getting us a new contract, nothing else. In reality nothing else really matters.
Maybe they can plead with people not to bid on supe jobs or retire because it hurts our collective strength.
The "leaders" of Natca have become like bush to me...the less I hear from them the happier I am. At least I can almost forget they are supposed to be doing something if they stop sending out their stupid little messages that have said the same thing for over 2 years.

On Monday Stoogel announced that Osmus will be "his" deputy. But then on Tuesday he announces that he's leaving FAA come the 20th and she's going to be the acting administrator.
Sometime on the evening of the 5th or the morning of the 6th, someone on team Obama must have advised Stoogel that his services would no longer be needed after January 20th.
That he's not even being allowed to stay on during the transistion sends a strong message. Because up until recently FAA's internal propoganda minister, one Gerald R Lavey, was hinting that Boobie would probably be hanging around past the 20th, if only for a short time. Wrong Gelman !
Watching the last vestiges of the Bush-Blakey arrogance and smug smirks, wiped off the faces of the ATO honchos and the rest of the management food chain, will be almost as satisfying as getting a ratified CONTRACT !

Maybe since they'll be running against each other, Pat & Paul aren't talking much these days??
I am soooooo looking forward to hearing Paul explain why he thinks Pat should no longer be president (since he'll be trying to defeat him) when he's told us nothing for the past 30 months except how great a job Pat's been doing, working hard, walking the halls, making connections in congress, working the issues, getting our message out, etc, blah, blah, blah. Paul, you got some explaining to do.

Don't be surprized if you see their names on the latest supervisor selections list like Merlin ,Langston and the countless other "NATCAVISTS" who went over to the dark side for selfish reasons.
Posted by: Dog | January 07, 2009 at 09:24 AM
Don't be surprised that they take stuped jobs? I'm EXPECTING it!
Posted by: Puce Frog | January 07, 2009 at 11:21 AM
I'll give them this. Pat, Paul, and John have all answered me whenever I emailed or called, within 24 hours or less, sometimes within minutes! Maybe because I am and will always be a NATCA leader. They are all my brothers, and I will always give them respect.
JTB will never bid a stuped job. I doubt his wife will. I doubt Pat and Paul will as well. Get involved with NATCA, get on the bbs, talk to your RVP (if you can find him), talk to your local rep, get involved!!!! If you suck on NATCA's teat, dont milk it for a stupe job, milk it for a Union Leader.

I posted this below text to the Jurassic Part website today in reply to the webmaster's and the Taber post, before I read nwpric's post on this blog. nwpric's analysis is correct. Here is what I arrived at:
"The notion that Lynne Osmus will remain Administrator post-Obama has already been floated as a balloon by some media. That's the new Administration's equivalent of wetting its finger and putting it in the air to check wind speed and direction.
Now, here's the wind:
1. The reason Lynne Osmus takes over on January 16th, is because Bobby Sturgell is so full of arrogant false pride, he calendared the last possible business day he could stay in office pre-Inauguration. January 16th is the Friday pre-Inauguration. It is reported that after GWB asked for Bobby's resignation letter a number of weeks ago, (a fact previously blogged on www.BobbySturgell.org), Bobby refused to submit his resignation letter, in Bobby Sturgell’s delusional and vain "hope" that somehow Obama would keep a mortician like Bobby with 3,500+ civilian aviation FAA kills to his credit, on the job. In other words, Bobby's mind is almost completely divorced from reality right now because of the beating that he took and the realization that virtually everybody in the Country but his mother hates him - but the one thing overtaking all of that, is that Bobby absolutely REFUSED to let Team Obama fire him immediately after the Inauguration. Word that Obama would immediately fire Sturgell post-Inauguration, we believe, issued to Sturgell Monday. By Tuesday, Sturgell misspelled and mistyped his exit e-mail, and dumped his mess on Osmus, as blogged by Quiet Rockland yesterday.
2. As for “don’t mean to demean Lynne Osmus”: well, like Joe Namath before Super Bowl III, I hereby GUARANTEE that Lynne Osmus will learn a new definition of the word “demean” if she does not either: (A) step down immediately post-Inauguration; or else (B) drop the NY/NJ/PHL Airspace Redesign, treat all ATCs fairly, and take every single possible step to restore aviation safety to America IMMEDIATELY as of the 16th.
In the meantime, however, Quiet Rockland is already proceeding with the assumption that, as a Sturgellian crony Tombstone Agency hack, Lynne Osmus will do none of the above. Lynne Osmus is about to learn what it is really like to be a public figure. Starting with that photo of her."

John,
You are a real smart guy, and I know you will be campaigning for Ruth. It is a good strategy to try and attack them on this perceived weakness now, the problem is you are not being very subtle about it. Truth is this was a grueling campaign season, and I hoped they spent some time with their families. While you were President, I loved your communication knowing what kind of coffee you drank what time you drank it, where you went, what time you woke up, who you e-mailed. You could make a pretty normal week sound like it was very exciting. The problem is you are not the President any more, and it is pretty classless to slam Pat or Paul for not being exactly like you. Brilliant campaigning, but classless.
Posted by: Johnny Temple | January 07, 2009 at 04:41 PM
Dear Johnny,
I am most certainly a Ruth Marlin supporter, although with my busy schedule (take kids to school, tan, volunteer at Thrift Store, pick kids up, ride four-wheelers, dinner, Wii, porch for sunset,) I doubt that I will actually do any campaigning (unless you come to my house.)
Having said that...
This wasn't THAT grueling of a campaign season. I know. I worked on it every day for almost six months and raised almost half a million dollars for Obama. When it is your full time job it really isn't hard......certainly not as hard as working one man short so you can be gone.
I hope they spent some time with their families, too. My point was not that. My point was---there is a lot to tell the membership. The silence from the two opposing camps---Forrey vs. Rinaldi---is deafening. And the membership is adrift. It doesn't take long to type, "Merry Christmas, brothers and sisters." Look back at my tenure....there wasn't a holiday go by unacknowledged.
I could care less if Pat and Paul sound like me. What I really wish is that they were competent at their jobs. Alas, poor officers, I knew them well. Neither one of them is fit for the office they currently hold, as the upcoming season will expose in graphic detail.
As for "classless," you are entitled to your opinion (which I happen to disagree with.) I appreciate that you managed to upbraid me without getting rude about it. That allows me to answer your points without returning fire. :-)
I could get into a long, long dissertation about your newfound sensitivity to classless campaigning...it's obvious you weren't around to see Forrey lie his way into office...but I will save the more salient parts for another classless post. Stay tuned! You and 9,000 others can't all be wrong......
My very best,
John

Since Sept3,2006 we've be alone in the field. That's not classless, thats the truth.
Posted by: BZ@ZDC | January 07, 2009 at 06:54 PM
BZ has it 100% correct. JTB isn't swinging too hard to hit these targets. They have done that themselves.
Leadership? What a joke. If either of those 2 buffoons get ONE vote in the NATCA election, controllers lose all respect for their intelligence.
On a seperate note: A reception for Booooby is being held this Friday at FAA HQ. Come get your photo taken! Sheetcake for everyone!!!!!!
Posted by: Without A Trace | January 07, 2009 at 08:06 PM
Friday Sheetcake For Bobby?
Hmmm!
Will eel also be cooked and served?
I will appreciate every attendee e-mailing photos of the Friday event, including close-ups of Bobby, and of said sheet-cake, to:
jtormey@optonline.net
...assuming I'm not in D.C. myself on the 16th to take my own photos, that is.
Frank Carvel used to do a Fudgie-The-Whale ice-cream cake in Yonkers. If Frank were alive today I know he'd do a Bobby-The-Eel cake for the Sturg-EEL. Perhaps someone will decide to carry on Frank Carvel's tradition.

Wait a minute. Bobby-Sheetcake is on the 9th? THIS Friday?
What's Bobby going to do between the 9th and the 16th?... Aside from taking a written inventory of his paper-clips and looking over his NTSB fatality statistics since 2003, that is?

I just wish SOMEONE would tell us (controllers) WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!! The silence is deafening. WHY THE SECRETS? I'm sick of "oh, we can't say". WHY THE HELL NOT??? It's not like popping your cherry and afraid to tell the folks. We are grown ups, I think we can handle it. ANYBODY? ANYBODY? PAT? PAUL? JTB? RUTH? BOBBY? LYNNE? LENNY? SQUIGGY? A N Y B O D Y ?????

What's going on ?
Well lets connect a few dots shall we. Bush is out, Obama is in. Peters out, Lahood in. Stoogell out and a player to be named later will be in (if Osmus finds favor with Obama/Lahood she might be that player. J Esq. seems to think not).
Oberstar has made it clear to Lahood as has Costello that FAA NEEDS to move ahead on a contract piece with NATCA regardless of when a new administrator gets confirmed. IOW asap.
Will Osmus play this facilitator role ? She might, she was as Stoogel indicated FAA's liason to the Obama transition.
We're going to find out by the end of this month in my view, exactly what bridges Pat actually built to the Obama camp.
Take this for what it's worth, it's only my opinion. I think the Obama WH will offer NATCA an interim deal on pay and work rules to bridge the period until we can get a contract ratified.
What will that offer on pay constitute of ? Tough to say. Restoration of CIC, CIP, B scale controller's raises phased in over a two or three year period, restoration of Congressional raises added to base, etc. All possibilities, but I'm guessing.
But I know this, whatever deal Obama makes us, assumng we get one, considering the political context we're going to find ourselves in(NATCA supported Obama, Obama won) we're probably going to have to take it.
Posted by: nwprlc | January 08, 2009 at 08:40 AM
nwprlc, I agree with you except for the interim deal. I am hoping that we go right back to the "green" book and then go from there. I would say, returning to the green book for a 4 year extension of the "old contract" might be the way to go.
It could be sold to whomever as....we didn't give the controllers anything new just an extension of what they had before Sept. of 2006. That, in and of itself, would be a win win in my opinion. Hopefully, Pat and Paul are cutting that deal right now.
Posted by: Dog | January 08, 2009 at 09:21 AM
You may be right, the green book may be the interim deal.
Pat has said that he wants a return to the last contract initially.
Remains to be seen, what if anything we get in terms of an interim deal and how much vocal opposition we'll get from the likes of Mica and Demint.
They'll certainly raise the specter of how much money it's going to cost the taxpayer, while ignoring the fact(of course) that FAA management hasn't taken a dime in pay cuts.

I hope to God the wailers(whalers) in the FAA chorale don't start weeping uncontrollably when good old Bobby takes his final walk. If they had a clue they would be crying for the 3000+ general aviation deaths that have occurred in this, the safest period in aviation history, recently being watched-over by Bob S. Retirement is the answer for me, JTB, although it is going to be in Minnesota.
